Farm City Week for this year is set for November 20-26.

The first Collier County Farm City BBQ began more than 30 years ago with a similar story. Following a bad crop season in Immokalee, the people of Naples invited the farmers to a barbeque. The following year, the farmers of Immokalee reciprocated the hospitality. The event still rotates from Naples to Immokalee annually. [More]

Planning is underway for the Fifth Annual Chamber Golf Tournament, set for November 14th, at the Del Webb course at Ave Maria.  Application forms for teams and sponsorships will be going out shortly, according to Tom Patterson, Chair of this year’s event.   “We hope everyone will take a positive look at this annual event to help raise funds for the Chamber and sponsor a team, tee/green sign, or some other form of sponsorship.” Patterson said, “and by playing at Ave Maria we hope to attract more teams from the Naples area.”
 

Memorial to Honor Our Nation's Heroes

The Collier County Freedom Memorial is a grassroots effort to pay tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country and the victims of the 9/11 attacks. 

Each Collier County citizen has the opportunity to participate in this effort to support the Freedom Memorial designed by Gerald Ladue of Naples, which will be built at Freedom Park at the corner of Goodlette-Frank Road and Golden Gate Parkway.   Construction of the memorial is scheduled to begin in the near future, thanks to the generous contributions that have been made thus far. Immokalee Airport to Become National Guard Home

Naples Daily News, September 15, 2009 - Some 26 acres of Immokalee Regional Airport is now home to the Florida National Guard. Collier County commissioners Tuesday agreed to a 25-year sublease that would will allow joint forces to build a military readiness center.

It is a deal two years in the making, said Theresa Cook, Collier County Airport Authority executive director, who was authorized to begin negotiating in the summer of 2007. [More]

The wealthy backers of Amendment 4 (formerly known as “Hometown Democracy”) have invested six years and nearly $2 million in their attempt to re-write Florida’s constitution. With their amendment now slated to appear on the 2010 ballot, the debate over this anti-jobs proposal is rapidly heating up.

Not surprisingly, Amendment 4 supporters spend most of their time debating last year’s legislation, local policymaking and absolutely anything other than their own radical idea. Collier County Heritage Trail

A meeting to share the progress of the Collier County Heritage Trail will be held in Immokalee, Friday, September 11, 2009,  starting at 2:30 PM, at Hodges University.  The Heritage Trail is an initiative to link the community to its local history and heritage, from the Naples Pier to Immokalee, and all areas in between.  

The Collier County Heritage Trail is a project of Naples Backyard History and the educational arm of Naples Cultural Landscape Fund of the Community Foundation of Collier County.   It’s a community effort and is aided by the support of community leaders as well as local businesses.    [More]

Free Public Outreach Seminars!

The Collier County Clerk of Courts is offering several free seminars, in the months of October, November and December, hosted by the Community Outreach office. Established two years ago by Dwight E. Brock, Clerk of the Circuit court, Community Outreach is responsible for increasing the public awareness and un-derstanding of the Clerk’s role, programs, services and the information resources available to them when conducting business with the Clerk’s Office.
